What are CLIA Academy Online Courses?
These are CLIA training courses that are offered for agents affiliated with active
CLIA agencies to take online. They are the same as the Live Seminar training events
only offered in a different (online) format. The benefit of online courses is that
you can take them whenever you want.
What are CLIA Online Exams and how are they different from CLIA Academy Online Courses?
CLIA Online Exams are just that- ONLY EXAMS- there is no training material provided
on the website. You get your information from either a LIVE Seminar, Video or Textbook.
CLIA Academy Online Courses are the whole package in one- Training, Demos, Reviews,
and Exams.
What courses does the CLIA Academy Offer?
You can find a list of CLIA Academy Online Courses
here.
What is the difference between a 1st edition course and a 2nd/3rd edition of a course?
We are consistently updating the material in our courses but every once in a while
we make enough changes to a course to justify making it a new course. If a course
is labeled as a 2nd (etc) edition, that means the content has been updated and overhauled.
Once a new edition has been released for a course we stop offering the older edition.
You can take a new edition of a course for credit.

In order to maintain the integrity of examination content, it has always been CLIA’s

CLIA does not allow us to provide this information to avoid the temptation of passing

Did I pass my faxed exam? When will I get my exam results?
Results are sent by USPS from San Antonio, Texas for exams that are faxed in. Please
allow adequate mail time for passing letters to arrive.
I finished taking my course but never received my passing letter.
Passing letters are emailed to the email address entered at registration immediately
after you submit your certification test for grading. This email is automatically
sent, but because the internet and email delivery can experience delays, please
allow up to 24 hours for this email to arrive. You can also download a copy of your
passing letter from your My Transcript page.
If your passing letter does not arrive, please ensure you have completed and submitted
your test properly. You will know you have submitted your test if the link for the
certification test is disabled. Please note that at the end of many courses there
is a post-test of around 10 questions. This is not the certification test. The certification
test is accessed through the course listing table of contents and is usually around
50 questions long.
If you have submitted your certification test, it could be that the email address
we have for you on file is incorrect or the email delivery was declined. Please
contact TheAcademy.com at 210.530.2700 or email clia@theacademy.com and we will
check your email address and re-send your passing letter to you. When you contact
us, please provide your name, email address, login number, and name of the course/exam
you are referring to.
I need/lost my passing letter.
You can view and print a copy of your passing letter from the My Transcripts section.
How long does it take to get my pass letter once I complete the exam?
Online results are sent automatically to the email address provided at registration.
Exams that are faxed or mailed require adequate mailing time from the examinations
office in San Antonio, Texas.
Do I have to send my letter to CLIA or does it get sent by you automatically?
All correspondence should be sent to CLIA- UNLESS you are registering for an Online
CLIA Course or submitting an Exam for Grading.
If I took a course and passed it and want to take the second or third version
of the same title, will I earn credit for the second and/or third version?
If the course you are taking has a different exam number than the one previously
taken, new course credits will be issued. Every CLIA exam is assigned a number.
The last digit in the exam number refers to the exam version. The digits prior to
that last digit are the numbers that need to be different for you to receive credit
again.
For Example: Group Sales 1st edition has the following exam numbers - 071 and 072.
07 refers to Group Sales 1st edition. You cannot take both exam 071 and 072 and
receive double credit. However, Group Sales 2nd edition has the following exam numbers
- 851 and 852. The 85 refers to Group Sales 2nd edition. If you previously took
exam 071, you may take exam 852 for additional credit.
Why is my progress not tracking correctly?
In order for your progress status to change from In Progress to Complete, you must
view every page in the lesson. In most cases, a page was probably missed along the
way and re-clicking through the chapter will fix the problem.
If you re-click through the whole course and the problem still exists, you probably
need to adjust your browser settings. Our courses use Active Server Pages. In order
for these to function properly, you must use certain browser settings. The default
browser settings should be fine, but in case these have been changed:
- Internet Explorer (IE)
- Go to Tools/Internet Options/Privacy tab - set Settings to medium or low.
- Remain on the Privacy tab and click the Advanced button. Cookies should be set to
Accept or Prompt. Click OK.
- Next click on the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Java(Sun) section and make sure
Use JRE 1.5.0_04 for <applet> (requires restart) is checked.
- Netscape
- Tools/Options/Site Controls. Under Web Features make sure you have Allow Cookies,
Enable JavaScript, and Enable Java checked.
- Firefox
- Tools/Options/Privacy. Expand the Cookies option and make sure Allow site to set
cookies is selected.
- Next click on Web Features. Make sure Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are checked.
- Opera
- Tools/Preferences/Advanced tab. Click on Content. Everything needs to be checked
except for Show active frame border.
- Next click on Cookies. Make sure you have Accept all cookies or Let me decide every
time I receive one selected.
Please note, you can access your certification test even if all your progress statuses
are not Complete.
Why do I experience times when the information comes in slowly?
There are a great number of factors that affect the speed of delivery over the Internet.
For example, your Internet service provider, or ISP, connects your computer to the
Internet. The ISP has a network that services many people like yourself to connect
them to an Internet "backbone." That "backbone" is one of the foundation pieces
of the Internet and it connects you to TheAcademy.com server at our ISP. As you
can see, the information has a fair amount of traveling to do before it gets to
you. If your connection is a bit noisy, or your ISP has a large volume of other
connections to service, or there is a good deal of traffic on the Internet in your
part of the country, then you may experience delays in the delivery of CLIA Cruise
Counsellor Courses.
To make sure that we've done everything we can so CLIA Cruise Counsellor Courses
are delivered to you as quickly as possible, we took the following steps:
CLIA Cruise Counsellor Courses reside on a top-rated Web server. It uses SCSI drives
(which are very fast), lots of memory, and is connected via Ethernet to our ISP's
Internet connection. The ISP we chose actually has several connections to the Internet,
each one a primary Internet backbone. This means that if traffic is unusually heavy
on one, or it goes down completely, there are others to help carry the load. When
TheAcademy.com Web server gets a request for some information, we make sure that
your request is responded to as quickly as possible.
I have used the course at work and at home. At work, everything looks great but
at home the graphics look strange. Why is there a difference?
The most likely cause for this is that one of the computers is able to display more
colors than the other. In most cases, your personal computer should be able to support
256 colors or more. This is the minimum number of colors you'll need to view CLIA
Cruise Counsellor Courses properly. Your computer may be able to display 256 colors
or greater, but for some reason it has been set to display less than that. To find
out, try this.
On Windows computers, open the Control Panel window and double-click on the Display
control panel. Once it is open, select the Setting tab along the top part of the
window. You should see a listing of the number of colors you can set your computer
monitor to, with the current setting being selected. Choose at least 256 colors.
If you can select a higher setting, try it out. We believe you'll like what you
see. After you've chosen a setting, click on the OK. You may be told that you'll
need to reboot your computer for the change to take effect. Follow the recommendations
made by Windows and then return to CLIA Cruise Counsellor Courses.
For Macintosh computers, select Control Panel from the Apple menu and select the
Monitors module. You'll see a listing of the number of colors your monitor can display.
Select at least 256 colors and close the Control Panel window. Your screen should
update to reflect the new setting.
I got a message saying there was a JavaScript error. What does that mean?
JavaScript is a computer language that is understood by the browsers needed to take
CLIA Cruise Counsellor Courses. JavaScript helps provide the interactivity that
CLIA Cruise Counsellor Courses employ. If you get a JavaScript error, obviously
something went wrong. Please send e-mail to clia@theacademy.com describing exactly
what the error message said and on what screen it occurred. It is very important
that you be as specific in your details as possible so that we can isolate and address
the problem. It's also very important that we thank you in advance for your help.
Are your online courses and exams compatible with a MAC?
While some of our older courses may be viwed on a MAC, many of the courses utilize Flash video and therefore may not be compatible.
I use America Online (AOL). Why does the course stall and not allow me to continue
forward or visit previously viewed pages?
America Online does not fully and correctly support the current Hypertext Transfer
Protocol (HTTP) that governs use of the web. The foremost problem is that AOL caches
pages on its own servers even if those pages contain instructions that they are
not to be cached under any circumstances. For this reason and others, you may experience
problems. If the program appears to "stall" try to refresh the page by right-mouse
clicking and selecting refresh or reload, while simultaneously holding down the
"shift" key on your keyboard. If that does not help send us an email to clia@theacademy.com.
I use America Online (AOL). Why do some of the graphic images look blurred or distorted?
The older AOL caching system detects that an object is an image, it sends the image
through a compression manager on the AOL system network before caching it. Compression
makes images smaller for faster retrieval from the cache to members. Our system
developers use a newer proprietary version of JPEG compression. AOL members can
individually disable AOL graphics compression. Since our images are already compressed,
we advise you disable further compression using the preferences option of your AOL
browser.
There are many reviews that make use of crossword puzzles. Why won't they load for me?
The CLIA Cruise Counsellor Courses Website makes use of crossword puzzles for the
Unit reviews. These puzzles make use of a computer language know as Java. Your browser
must have Java enabled in order for the puzzles to function properly. You can enable
this function using the Options or Preferences function of your browser.
I just registered for a course but once I login it is saying I am not registered for that course.
There are two possible reasons for this. First, you could be looking at an older
cached version of the page instead of the most current version. To make sure you
are viewing the most current version of the page, you need to clear your cache and
refresh the page. Here's how:
First, you need to Log-Out of CLIA Cruise Academy by clicking the Log-Out button
located on the top right of the page. Next...
Internet Explorer
- Tools/Internet Options/General tab and click the Delete Files button.
- Click OK. This could take awhile so be patient.
- Once it is done click OK and refresh your page.
- Login to see if your course isn't active now.
Netscape
- Tools/Options/Privacy
- Click the Clear button next to Cache.
- Click OK. This could take awhile so be patient.
- Once it is done click OK and refresh your page.
- Login to see if your course isn't active now.
Firefox
- Tools/Options/Privacy
- Click the Clear button next to Cache.
- Click OK. This could take awhile so be patient.
- Once it is done click OK and refresh your page.
- Login to see if your course isn't active now.
Opera
- Tools/Preferences/Advanced/History
- Click the Empty Now button next to Disc Cache. This could take awhile so be patient.
- Once it is done click OK and refresh your page.
- Login to see if your course isn't active now.
If that doesn't help, chances are something went wrong during the registration process.
You can call TheAcademy.com at 210.530.2700 or send us an email at dean@theacademy.com
